YEARS is an insanely amazing project produced by Bartholonäus Traubeck. It literally tells the life story of a tree in musical form. The modified record player reads the tree like it would a vinyl record and interprets the tree rings into an impossibly haunting composition. Technically speaking, it reads the rings by its light and dark value and its texture. It then interprets that data into a musical scale and outputs that data as music.
It’s amazing to me that something so visually and naturally beautiful has been translated into audible form, nearly equally as charming, honest and mysterious.
