CourtShop was founded in 2010 in downtown NYC by Nicole Tondre and Lisa Fuller. The line focuses on high waisted styles in clean, classic washes, and highlights the importance of fit. We’re huge fans of the fits-like-a-glove denim, and we’ve teamed up with the CourtShop girls to bring you an exclusive collaboration debuting late next week. We caught up with Nicole to get a glimpse behind the brand, and you can too when she visits the shop next week! Click through for the full interview.
Can you tell us a little bit about your process when designing denim?
NT: We always start with a seasonal inspiration board. Then I talk to my team and my friends about what jean they feel is missing from their wardrobe, what jean they wish they had in their lives right now. Our focus is on fit so we spend a lot of time fine tuning that each season.
What’s the ultimate goal when creating a new style or fit?
NT: To create a piece that becomes a permanent staple in our wardrobe. Something we want to throw on every day that makes us feel like a million bucks.
Where do you find new ideas and inspiration, especially living in an over-saturated place such as NYC?
NT: I’m from Colorado and Texas, so I always find of inspiration when I travel home. I mean who wears jeans better than cowboys? I look a lot to vintage books, movies and music, but the bulk of my inspiration comes from the women of NYC and how they dress in their daily lives.
What’s next for COURTSHOP- what can we look forward to seeing from you?
NT: Fall is a bit of a moodier, darker collection for us with lots of leather trims and victorian menswear influences.
Describe you/your brand in five words or less-
NT: Clean, Classic, Americana
Thanks Nicole!
