As part of our Spring 2012 campaign, we teamed up with Richmond Soap Studio to create custom and 100% natural soaps-on-a-rope in gold, silver and bronze medals. You too can bear the scent of a Winner, of Mediocrity, or of a Loser. We visited Rebekah in her studio, located in a florist’s shop on a quaint sunny street in Richmond’s fan district, to see how our soaps are made and smell lots of things for ourselves.
Rebekah, one half of the husband-wife team that is Richmond Soap Studio, graciously showed us around her workspace and talked us through her process. She uses the cold process method to create her soaps, and uses only organic, local and natural ingredients- absolutely no detergents or preservatives. The soaps spend one day in a mold, which is usually handmade by her husband Joe, and then “sleep”, or cure for 3-4 weeks. Our custom soaps are then hand-stamped and strung on hand-stitched ribbons to create Olympic-inspired medals.
Besides soap bars, Richmond Soap Studio also creates foaming handsoaps, candles, and dark chocolate lip balms, also, of course, made with local and organic materials. Rebekah dreams up and mixes fragrances herself, each inspired by a scent or memory of Richmond and named for the city’s most favorite spots. And if that’s not enough, Richmond Soap Studio’s soaps are known to do wonders for your skin. Snag a piece of Richmond for yourself.
