Max Braun set up a small engineering shop in 1921, and within a decade became one of Germany’s top radio manufacturers. But what interests us most is the legacy Dieter Rams left behind at his time with Braun. Rams, chief of design from 1961-1995, began to see the amount of overconsumption in society, and asked himself “Is my design good enough?” With a simple philosophy, “Less but Better”, Dieter Rams led Braun in creating simple and timeless designs of everything from radios to record players to hairdryers, that are still some of the most well designed products today. His influence can be seen in a multitude of disciplines even today, but most notably in the philosophy and products of Apple.
