For the seventh installment of our Meet The Maker series, local designer Angela Bacskocky will be in store Friday, September 28, from 6-8pm to debut her Fall 2012 collection, Nest. The Nest deals with isolation and hibernation, and the animal instinct to burrow and hide away, which is simultaneously comfortable and claustrophobic.
Though Angela Bacskocky is only in her second collection as a designer, she’s got an impressive resume. Having lived and worked in London, she studied menswear at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, worked for a London tailor, and interned for designers Felder Felder and Alexander McQueen, where prints she developed for the McQueen Spring/Summer 2009 collection walked the runway in Paris. Now located here in Richmond, Virginia, Angela has set up a production studio for her conceptual line of clothing and accessories, where each new season will continue as the collaborative effort of a revolving group of fine artists and craftsmen attempting to merge the lines between fashion and art.
The fabrics and silhouettes used in the Nest collection reference natural skins and warm furs. Only natural fibers are used: wool, leather, shearling, silk, cotton, and feathers, and the prints have been organically developed around each piece and screen printed by hand.
Be sure to come by the store from 6-8pm next Friday for custom leather engraving, exclusive new accessories, giveaways, food and music.
