Made by Hand

The Bureau of Common Goods is a film and digital content studio based out of Brooklyn, New York. Their Made By Hand series was launched in September of 2011 and has since gained a lot of love, including from us. The series in comprised of an ever-growing number of short films created to celebrate those who make things with their hands: locally, sustainably, and with a love for their craft.

This is Made by Hand‘s inaugural video, The Distiller, highlighting Breucklen Distilling Company, which was started by Brad Estabrooke and is the first gin distiller in Brooklyn since Prohibition. Made by Hand continues on to feature a beekeeper, a knife crafter, a cigar maker, and coming soon, a bike builder. Watch all the videos from the series here, if, like us, you are fascinated by how things are made and how the independently owned companies that make them came to be.

“I was partly inspired by the other people in Brooklyn, where I was living at the time, who are making different products really from scratch and by hand, and independently (…) making different things where they were starting from the most elemental forms of the different ingredients and combining them and making something that was really special at the same time.” - Brad Estabrooke, founder, Breuckelen Distilling Company.
