We’re very excited to host the 10th annual Northern Grade traveling market in our hometown this September 21st and 22nd in the iconic Power Plant at Haxall Point. The mobile pop-up showcases American-made menswear and has made recent stops in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Nashville. The event was founded in 2009 by husband and wife team Katherine and Mac McMillan, who describe the event like “summer camp”, bringing together American-made brands and the people who love them. Brands in attendance include Billy Reid, The Hill-Side, Shockoe Denim, Woolrich, and more.
The historic Power Plant was built in the first half of the 20th century as a hydroelectric generating plant that provided power to all of downtown Richmond. It’s located on the scenic downtown Richmond canal and has hosted RVA Street Art Fest and TedxRVA in the past year. It’s also for sale if you’re in the market for a really cool (American-made!) industrial power plant.

Along with 20+ brands on site to shop and personally meet, our friend and barber David Foster of Foster Cuts will be on hand to provide classic haircuts and grooming, Lamplighter Roastery will host a mini cafe with pour-over coffee, Bulleit Bourbon and Hardywood Brewery will offer tastings, and bbgb books will provide a kid’s lounge. Pizza Tonight will also set up their traveling brick oven outside in case you build up an appetite.
The two-day event will be held on September 21st and 22nd and is free and open to the public. Come down and buy some new fall gear, take a photo in the Smilebooth, and hopefully make a new friend or two. In the meantime, check out some great shots leading up to the event at the official Northern Grade VSCO grid (while you’re at the event, make sure to tag any shots with #northerngraderva and #vsco.)
