We love typography and just about everything related to it. We also like videos. Upside Down, Left To Right is a nice little film on the art of letterpressing in Plymouth University featuring Paul Collier. Check it out after the jump.

YEARS is an insanely amazing project produced by Bartholonäus Traubeck. It literally tells the life story of a tree in musical form. The modified record player reads the tree like it would a vinyl record and interprets the tree rings into an impossibly haunting composition. Technically speaking, it reads the rings by its light and dark value and its texture. It then interprets that data into a musical scale and outputs that data as music.

It’s amazing to me that something so visually and naturally beautiful has been translated into audible form, nearly equally as charming, honest and mysterious.

Oliver Spencer is a man and a fashion brand. Oli, the man, is a designer, a self-taught tailor, a switched-on, hands-on creative. The brand is an expression of modern man; his tastes, his touch, his style.

Oliver Spencer has grown up in its nine years, adopted by the world’s best shops. Oli took a standalone New York shop for Oliver Spencer in 2006, in partnership with top U.S. retailer Odin. In 2008, he opened the doors of a second shop, in London, and introduced his womenswear collection. In 2010 a third shop was opened in Toronto and the latest venture has been into shoes. A standalone shoe shop was opened on Lambs Conduit Street in London in spring 2011. A second shop in Soho London is planned for late this year…

There is no escaping the fact that Oliver Spencer is a modern British brand. More than half the line is made in the UK. Oliver Spencer clothes are worn by music icons, from The Rolling Stones to Paul Weller and The Doves, and by movie stars from Toby Jones, Martin Freeman to Benicio Del Toro.

Damien Hirst “On the Spots”

The concept is relatively simple: Spots. Simple and varied in size and color, thousands upon thousands of spots span together to make one of the worlds largest paintings. And thanks to the Gagosian‘s arsenal of galleries, 331 of Damien Hirst’s “spot” paintings are on display right now across the globe – 11 galleries in 8 cities on 3 continents. But what does the worlds highest paid artist mean behind these canvases? Why has Mr. Hirst and his many assistants spet countless hours making lots and lots of spots?

Checking Thrasher Magazine at least once a day should be a requirement for anyone with a soul. Whether you skate or not, the current state of the industry is beyond real and it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on. One relatively new team to watch is the Converse team. They recently just took a trip to Germany & Italy to skate some of Europe’s finest terrain. Click on for a nice little video from a company that’s actually focused toward skating.

Tom Sachs by The Selby

The Selby has just produced a new video profiling the prolific New York sculptor Tom Sachs. Sachs is a sculptor, probably best known for his elaborate recreations of various Modern icons, all of them masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another. In an early show he made Knoll office furniture out of phone books and duct tape; later, he recreated Le Corbusier’s 1952 Unité d’Habitation using only foamcore and a glue gun. He’s a really cool guy.

Cartel Coffee Lab

Hot coffee in the dessert? It works. These guys are taking on a completely new approach to each single cup served. 2011 DC Tweed Ride

Just north of oRichmond in Washington D.C., the Dandies and Quaintrelles have successfully pulled off their third annual Tweed Ride. The DC based social group is known for organizing and hosting vintage-inspired and always stylish events in partnership with an support of noble causes. With refined style and purposeful living, hundreds of cyclists rode through the streets of DC, two wheels at a time. Click for the video.

Shipstern’s Carnage

Think because it’s cold out that surfing is over? Wrong. When the temperatures get colder, the waves only get bigger. Our buddy Nick tipped us on this place called Shipstern’s Bluff or Shippies for short. It’s a break off the south eastern coast of Tasmania on the Tasman Peninsula Australia. It used to be known as Devils Point. It takes nearly a 3 hour bush hike just to get vehicle access to take you to the break. It requires a few things: 1. A tow-in 2. Smarts (or lack of them) 3. Balls. The video after the jump can sum up the rest.
