Meet the Maker: Clare Vivier

March 21 2014

Spring signifies many things: new beginnings, renewal, and for us it’s when we kick off our Meet the Maker event series, where we invite some of our favorite designers down to Richmond to learn the stories behind the brands. For the first event of 2014, we’re thrilled to announce that Clare Vivier will be joining us in-store on Friday, April 4th for our 13th Meet the Maker installation.

Clare Vivier is an L.A.-based handbag designer who began making bags in 2006 in response to a hole in the market. While working as a journalist in France and busy traveling she noticed a lack of functional yet stylish laptop cases and decided to make her own. Her eponymous line began with simple clutches and has grown to include sleek wallets, utilitarian duffles, and minimalist messenger bags made fresh in eye-popping colors and striking details. The brand “embodies timeless style over trend, quality over hype, and progress over abstraction.” Recently obsessed with text design and personalization, she now offers in-house monogramming with classic gold foil available on most styles.

Her aesthetic effortlessly combines Parisian chic (she spends much of her time in France with her son and French documentarian husband) and Los Angeles cool, creating sophisticated and timeless pieces that would last a lifetime of use. Her signature fold-over clutch has gained a cult following and famous devotees like Gwyneth Paltrow (who she created a Goop exclusive for), Amber Valetta, and Jessica Alba, to name just a few.

Vivier has also supported ethical manufacturing practices and has produced her bags in Los Angeles since 2008, proudly bearing the moniker “locally made.”
