Human Being Journal 7: Cover the Cover Winners

January 17 2016

The seventh edition of our biannual print publication, Human Being Journal, is graced by the imitable India Salvor Menuez. An accomplished artist in her own right, we thought it would only be appropriate to celebrate the launch of the new issue of HBJ with a bit of a contest. We asked our Instagram followers to submit their reinterpretations of the cover, making sure to play with the theme “Supreme Love”. We then put the entries to a vote amongst our staff, and in what ended up being an incredibly tight race, Nicole Horton’s subtle, color-blocked interpretation came out on top.

Our congratulations to @enicoleh ! Her restrained color study won us over with it’s simple, straight forward approach.

Artist @mikillskugga ‘s beautifully textured collage.

This incredible embroidered piece from @miiniiko was another staff favorite.

There seemed to be some kind of agreement between @cameroncharleslewis, @gilkeyea and @jasonroundtreeofficial.

@lachelreigh ‘s inspired mobile.

@norwhal ‘s mixed media interpretation used colored pencil, charcoal, copper wire, collage,  guoache and an old t-shirt.

James Young, winner of our first Cover the Cover contest dressed our cover girl in styrofoam and bubble wrap for his ‘recycled’ cover.

This clever entry form @machetepocketknife featured a variety of stones.

Marble coats were key in these entries from @berenicegolmann and @annakonakova

We love this embellished piece from artist @michaelbirch

@christopherjindo added a lot of dimension to our cover.

Pastel brights and dreamy glitter care of @msallyallen

a deconstructed piece from @oakinsoap

Art director @sydneyraehass ‘s colorful entry.

Thanks again to all of the participants! Make sure to pick up issue seven of Human Being Journal.
