The Beauty Edit: Cyn
October 16 2017
Cyn, the latest music artist signed to Katy Perry’s label, Unsub Records, stopped by our studio to model our current batch of favorite daily beauty and wellness products. Cyn grew up in Detroit and has just moved from Chicago to L.A., where she’s adjusting to a new skincare regime for the West Coast sunshine.
If her latest single, the effervescent Only With You, isn’t already on your regular rotation, it should be.
You just moved to L.A. from Chicago. How are you liking it so far?
Recording music and staying connected to producers is a lot easier to do in L.A., so for that reason, I love it! I do miss Chicago everyday though.
Thanks! I wrote Only With You while going through the thralls of a long distance relationship. I think you can hear that specifically in the lyrics, if you listen closely…
Any dream collaborations?
I would love to collaborate with Pharrell, Charlie Puth, Daft Punk, and probably more! But those are the first that come to mind.
How’d you get your start as a music artist?
I’ve been singing since I was a toddler, playing piano and participating in choirs, but after having learned how to record myself at the age of 14, I started uploading songs on the internet. It wasn’t until I was 21 that I started gaining traction on Soundcloud. I started receiving emails from labels and publishers. It was networking that led me to Katy Perry and her team.
Describe your personal style in 3 words.
Classic, natural, candid.
Tell us a little about your daily skincare routine. You’re obviously doing something right!
Ha! Well, actually, I felt I wasn’t doing something right! I reached out to my best friend, Josie, and she suggested a couple of extra things that have been working so well for me these past couple weeks.
As per my friend’s suggestion, I started using a 100% natural calcium bentonite clay and I love it! It’s called “Aztec Secret” and the name makes it sound like a total gimmick, but it’s the complete opposite of that. I notice a positive change in my skin almost immediately after use.
After washing the clay mask off, I use a cotton ball to apply witch hazel, which tightens pores, softens, and hydrates skin.
What are you most excited to start wearing again now that fall is here again?
I love wearing turtle necks, but it’s barely ever cold enough in for them in L.A.!
